What is a CPAP Cleaner?

A CPAP cleaner will cleanse your equipment efficiently.

The good thing about SoClean 2 is that it does not use any water. Here, they use activated oxygen. Some companies use Ultraviolet instead of water or activated oxygen.

You need to carefully select this cleaner to avoid any infection that you are trying to avoid.

SoClean is regarded as a natural cleaner as it will get activated oxygen from Ozon, a natural source.

A CPAP cleaner’s major benefit is that any minerals accumulate in the water chamber, with no odor, and ultimately make everything hygienic to the fullest.

How does this CPAP work?

All these cleaners avoid the use of water instead of using activated oxygen or ultra-violet light techniques. These techniques make them more reliable than traditional CPAP cleaners. These can kill up to 99% of microorganisms like bacteria, germs, pathogens, and fungi easily if used correctly.

How does Activated oxygen work?

Cleaners like SoClean breaks down the oxygen molecule and recreate it by combining another oxygen atom. This will become ozone. To simplify;

O2 + O = O3

This result is an oxidant. You know an oxidant always causes any substance to lose electrons. This ultimately helps to kill bacteria and germs.

This activated oxygen is already used in water purification, vegetable handling, housekeeping in hotels, and hospital disinfection.

How an Ultraviolet light works?

Cleaners like Lumin use this method. In this technique, a particular wavelength of UV light helps break the molecular bond that can destroy all microorganisms, like bacteria, germs, pathogens, and fungi.

Is SoClean covered by insurance?

No, but you will get a manufacturer warranty. The CPAP cleaning machines are not covered by insurance.

Which one is better SoClean or Lumin?

I will go with Lumin as SoClean uses the ozone technology to be harmful to the human body if not practiced correctly. On the other hand, Lumin uses UV light that is quite safe unless you know the operation well.

SoClean is very popular because of its reliability and is easy to use. You can go with any machine.

Is it viable to clean CPAP with hydrogen peroxide?

There are two technologies used in CPAP cleaners mainly which are Ultrasonic & UV. In ultrasonic we use water bubbles for deep cleansing by removing debris.

Does SoClean damage the CPAP Machine?

SoClean 2 is one of the most trusted CPAP cleaners and sanitizers that uses Ozon technology. If you use carefully and as per instruction given, you will get the best results.

What is the difference between SoClean and SoClean 2?

SoClean 2 is an upgraded version of SoClean. In SoClean 2 no chemical or any water to clean a CPAP machine. SoClean is not available in the market nowadays.

How much does a CPAP machine cost?

A CPAP cleaner machine may cost you from 50$ to 300$. The CPAP cleaner in the market is SoClean 2 & It may cost you less than 300 bucks.

What are Methods For CPAP Machine Cleaning?

There are three cleaning machines that are mainly performed;

  • UV Light Method
  • Activated Ozaon Method
  • Hand Washing

Inefficient or not cleaning your CPAP machine can put you at health risk. See if your CPAP machine does it automatically by pushing a button then you are good to go if not then you have to manually.

The ultraviolet light method is used to destroy bacteria and germs by using ambulances at germ spots. The activated Ozaon method gives 99.99% efficiency.

The handwashing is not that effective but it is good at least for not cleaning at all.

Being patient you can’t miss a single day, otherwise, it will bring a negative effect on your health.

Easy to Install

As this equipment is usually elders as their lung is not that efficient to inhale on normal pressure, it should be easy to install and work on.

As the CPAP cleaners are usually purchased for the patients and elders. Therefore, look for a model that is easy to install and operate.
Less-messy and easy to use CPAP cleaners are recommended to buy.

Automatic Cleaning

The equipment should be cleaned automatically; otherwise, it will be a big mess later on. Think like that, you have to wash out the mask and tubing daily with soap & water and then make it dry afterward.

Thus, adopt a time-saving technique of automatic cleaning through activated oxygen, ultraviolet rays, and ultrasonic rays.

LCD Display

There should be an alarm and LCD where you can see what function is ongoing, like if it ready to put the mask on or not yet. Look for the model that displays the vital information on an LCD screen. Such as the remaining time to end the process, the audible alarm when done with cleaning, and others.

Mask Compatibility

Most of the complaints are about the compatibility at the nose as well as the mask. Make sure to order the required one. That must be a flexible one to be fit on any face.

Cleaning Efficiency

See if you can clean multiple parts like hose and machine equipment simultaneously to save you time up to 50%.

Battery Timing

A sufficient battery timing is required as while traveling; you may not get any electrical power support. Look for the time taken by a model to charge the battery fully.

To be confident to carry it over outdoor trips make sure that how many sanitizing cycles one complete charge can take place.

It should be easy to assemble and disassemble so that you can clean it regularly. Look for a maintenance-free model that is easy to assemble and disassemble.

Compatibility and Limitation

Most of the models offer adapters to increase their compatibility with other CPAP devices. However, you should read the specifications of the CPAP cleaner and its compatibility with other cleaning accessories.

Some models have limitations such as can’t place the long hose or others. Therefore, make sure you buy the right equipment for your needs.

Time-saving and Efficient

Look for the model that lets you sanitize your mask and hose at the same time. As, some models take a long sanitizing cycle of up to 30 minutes, thus it will be a time-saving technique to cleanse both items at the same time.

Usually, most CPAP machines will come with at least 1 year of warranty. Some accessories should be replaced after 6 months as per their advice. Grab the model that covers at least the warranty of one year or 6 months.

More Thoughts on CPAP Cleaning;

Enjoy a hassle-free cleaning experience by simply putting the mask, tubing, water chamber, and headgear inside the sanitizing bag and switch on the device.

The breathing issues either related to “sleep apnea”, “ventilator condition” or “lung disease” – the use of CPAP devices are suggested to open the airways for a smooth inhaling process.

  1. I have used the SoClean machine for almost a year and found that it is actually dangerous. I discovered mildew growing in my reservoir after 9 months usage. I contacted the mfg and they basically told me it was my fault for not cleaning the equipment every week with soap and water. The manual said to wash the equipment when it is new, then let the machine work. Now they told me that the SoClean machine would send particles into the tank, thereby contaminating it. Furthermore, they said if I cough into the CPAP machine at night, that would cause mildew. Wrong. Mildew is spore driven, not bacteria driven. So, instead of helping me, they gaslighted me. Nice.

  2. I too had something growing in my water tank and I clean my items at least every two weeks with soap and water, aside from the daily cleaning of the So Clean tower. I was and still am under the impression that the machine itself would take care of anything growing in the mask, water tank, etc. Not too impressed with this manufacturer.
